Barbara E. Haro was born August 5, 1938 to Arne S. and Mabel (Olson) Haro on the family farm in rural La Moure County, North Dakota. She was the 5th child of 8 children—4 boys and 4 girls. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Clifford and Buddy and sisters, Ethel (Haro) Potts and Irene (Haro) Kraning, also her closest and dearest friends, Ruby Johansen and Sharon Minge. She is survived by her sister Margaret Haro of Marion, Iowa as well as two brothers, Jimmy (Judy) Haro and Rodney (Marge) Haro of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and her friend and companion Susan Gaudette. She has numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews spread around the entire country.
She attended High Prairie Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and, as a teenager and young adult, was active in Luther League. She was a life-long Lutheran and had been active in teaching Sunday school, serving on church councils and had served as Financial Secretary.
At the age of 21, she bought a one-way train ticket and with a whole $50.00 in her pocket, moved Seattle. She attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle and she worked at Luther Child Center in Everett, WA. She also volunteered in the VISTA program serving in the slums of Chicago.
She spent her career in the domestic and international marine transportation industry and enjoyed working with people from all over the globe. She loved her work. She also enjoyed working in her yard, mowing the grass, pulling weeds and working in her flower beds. Her biggest joy in life were her dogs, Cocker Spaniels were her first love and any rescue dog she could adopt.
