Phyllis Alice (Yanchuk) Piraino, 86, of Norwood passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021. Born May 22, 1934 in Boston to Michael and Alice (Podgurski) Yanchuk. Phyllis graduated from Roslindale High School in 1955 and worked as an executive secretary until she met the love of her life, the late Paul Joseph Piraino, to whom she was happily married for over 30 years.
Phyllis was an intelligent, independent and generous woman whose family meant the world to her. Phyllis enjoyed discussing spirituality and wellness, attending church, taking her friends to local dances and competitive ballroom dancing. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking Italian meals and vacationing at the family’s summer home on Cape Cod. A devoted wife and exemplary mother, she was primary caregiver for her disabled son, Matthew, for most of her life.
Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Stephen J. Piraino and his wife Cynthia of Lititz, PA, Susan T. Piraino of Ashland, and Matthew J. Piraino of Canton; and her adored grandchildren Gabrielle I. Piraino of New York, NY, and Nicholas P. Piraino and his wife Amanda of Thorndale, PA, and Julia R. Sicard of Ashland. Phyllis is also survived by her dear friend and confidante, Lisa Carroll of Taunton. She was preceded in death by her cherished brothers, Francis, Edward, George and his wife Patricia, and Robert and his wife Kathryn.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14th from 5 to 8pm at Gillooly funeral Home, Norwood. Family and friends are invited to wear pastel colors in honor of Phyllis. A private service will be held on Saturday, May 15th with interment to follow at Highland Cemetery.
