Hannah Rae Calaway, 8 years old, of Richmond, Texas passed away suddenly on Monday, January 22, 2018, at Texas Children’s Hospital. Hannah spent the past two years in and out of the hospital, but her untimely passing comes as a complete shock to all who knew her.
Born April 17, 2009, Hannah loved playing on her tablet, riding her bike, and naming the dozens of stuffed animals that fill her room. She was best known for loving the Disney Movie “Frozen” and all things related. She enjoyed playing video games with her brothers and weekly board games with her family. She was kind, caring, loving and very precocious. Her heart went out to all the children at Texas Children’s Hospital and her dream was to one day be a nurse or doctor. In 2015 Hannah received a stem cell transplant to treat a pre-Leukemia condition known as myelodysplastic syndrome caused by Monosomy 7. Shortly after the transplant she developed complications that eventually led to kidney disease which was being treated through dialysis. Things had started to look promising for Hannah prior to her passing.
She is preceded in death by cousin Angela Hope Calaway, her paternal grandparents Donald C. and Theresa K. Calaway, maternal grandfather Juan P. Cabrera, and uncle Norbert Silva, all of Ohio. Hannah is survived by her parents, Bruce E Calaway and Silvia Cabrera-Calaway of Richmond, Texas, her brothers Alijah, Kaleb, Lucas, and Noah, her brother/uncle Juan Jose “Johnny” Cabrera, her maternal grandmother Guadalupe G. Cabrera, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and second cousins in Texas and Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Texas Children’s Hospital Renal Fund 6323, Office of Philanthropy, Ste. 5214, PO Box 300630, Houston, TX 77230-0630.
