Nadine Hawk, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on June 11, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Rawlins County Kansas, February 27, 1928. Nadine was the second child of Maude and Tom Morton.
Nadine graduated from Atwood High School and after completing some college taught in a one room school house outside the town of Atwood, Kansas. She enjoyed her time with her students and spoke fondly of the time she spent teaching for the rest of her life.
Nadine met the love of her life Robert Warren Hawk at a community dance in Atwood, Kansas in December of 1946. Nadine and Bob were married two months later, February 8, 1947 in Oberlin, Kansas. This union would last for 64 years.
While Bob pursued his career with Safeway, Nadine created a home for him and their four children; Sharon Kay born August 1948, Susan Carol born November 1952, (Married to Michael Farley in 1990), Charlotte Jo born July 1955, (Married to Brad Miller in 1977) all born in Colby, Kansas. Their fourth child, Sandra Lu born February 1960 in Colorado Springs.
After many years of moving with Bob’s job, Nadine and Bob settled in Colorado Springs as their final location. Nadine enjoyed Colorado Springs for the weather and the opportunities the city offered to her and her children.
Nadine was blessed to have two beautiful grandchildren from Charlotte and Brad. Justin Warren born on Nadine’s birthday February 27, 1982, named after Robert Warren, and Mallory Rose born April 8, 1987, named after Bob’s mother’s maiden name. Adding to Nadine’s growing family, Justin and Elizabeth had great-grandson Asher Owen on September 25, 2013 and Mallory and Cody had great granddaughter Charlotte Rose on August 2, 2018. Mallory and Cody are expecting great granddaughter number two in August of 2020.
Nadine’s life focus was always on her family and home. Her passions included traveling with Bob throughout retirement with special visits to her daughters and grandchildren. Nadine enjoyed crafts of all types but especially loved to crochet. Nadine made numerous afghans for her girls, her nieces, her nephews and many family friends.
A graveyard celebration of Nadine’s life is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Beulah Cemetery in Colby Kansas at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. As Frankie Laine sang in Nadine’s favorite song:
“I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows. I believe for everyone who goes astray. Someone will come to show the way. I believe, I believe. I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard. I believe that someone in the great somewhere Hears every word.” Nadine believed.
