Anita Marie McGill, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on September 17, 2020 with her children, Robert, Rhonda and Randall at her side. She was met by the Lord Jesus and reunited with the love of her life, her husband Bob, whom she had greatly missed since 1984.
Anita was born in Toledo, Oregon, March 17, 1938 to Louis and Elsie Sauer. She was the second born in a family of six children. Lou’s occupation moved the family to Portland her Junior Year of High School. Not long thereafter, she met Bob, who was a football star at Franklin High School. With her being the new girl on campus, the dance began. They were smitten with one another and married in 1957. Anita worked as a telephone operator for AT&T in Portland while Bob joined the Air Force. They moved to be near his base in Colville, Washington where their first-born, Robert Jr., was born.
After Bob completed his service in the Air Force, they moved to Salt Lake City where their second child, Rhonda, was born. Anita continued working as an operator, while Bob worked as a draftsman for his brother Paul at PM Engineering. Bob had an opportunity with the company to move to the San Francisco Bay Area, so the family moved there in the late 1960’s. After living in Bay Area for a short time, Randall was born, completing the family.
Anita and Bob began their real estate venture investing in multi- family housing, becoming very successful. Anita continued working as a telephone operator while Bob left his job as a draftsman, continuing in real estate.
They worked together diligently for years until Bob, suddenly and tragically, passed away. Anita with her children, continued on with the family business. After 30 years as a telephone operator, she retired from the telephone company. She loved Hawaii and after retiring from AT&T, Anita spent months at a time in Maui where Rhonda and her family live.
Anita and Bob had always wanted to move back to Portland, which she did in 1999.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always thinking of others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and memories of her.
