On Sunday, November 8th 2020, Miss Joyce Marie Abram passed away at the age of eighty-four (84). Joyce was born on December 23, 1935; the eldest child of Rafael and Elsa Doris (McLaughlin) Abram in Honduras. Joyce was one of five daughters: Mrs. Rachida C. Faille, Mrs. Constance I. Jackson, Mrs. Rose E. Bradley (deceased) and Mrs. Sarah C. Sabido. Her nieces and nephews include: Michael I. Sabido, John P. Sabido, (deceased), Elizabeth A. (Sabido) Brady, Sarita J. (Faille) Maxwell, Marie L. (Faille) Heenan, Robert C. Faille, Joseph E. Faille, Anne M. (Jackson) Lowder (deceased) and Clifford W. Jackson. There are a total of seventeen (17) grandnieces and grandnephews.
Joyce’s journey in nursing began at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she earned her B.S. in Nursing. She then began her career in nursing at St. Paul Hospital in Minnesota. After a visit to Washington DC, Joyce moved to the District of Columbia, where she earned a M.S.N. at Catholic University of America and worked for the District in Public Health. She spent forty plus years in Washington, DC and finally came home to Charlotte to be with her family.
Joyce is a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Charlotte.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be a private family funeral at the church with interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
