Courtney grew up in Douglas, Wyoming and Perryton, Texas. He graduated Perryton High School in 1996. Courtney played football, basketball, and ran track. Courtney graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in financing.
He was later employed at TYCO, G.M Financing in Dallas, Wells Fargo, and Home Depot. He was a loving and caring person and loved his family and friends. He enjoyed all that nature provided. He was a huge fan of football and loved to watch Texas Tech. He enjoyed friends, neighbors, visiting and laughing, and loved outdoor cooking.
Courtney loved all animals. He didn’t care for cats, until a stray cat came into his life which he called Nas. They were the best of friends till his passing. Courtney will be missed by all family, friends, and all the people who he hung out with at the Blackburns, barbeques, and Holiday Celebrations. Courtney belonged to the Christ Lutheran Church in Lubbock, Texas.
Courtney is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Ehrich Wertz; maternal grandparents, Bob and Lorrane Ehrich of Peidmon, South Dakota; and paternal grandparents, George and Laura Wertz of Custer, Montana.
Courtney is survived by his father, Les Wertz of Perryton, Texas; brother, Chad Wertz and wife Christy; nieces, Macy and Maylee and nephew, Aaron Wertz all of Balko, Oklahoma; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be at a later date. Viewing will be on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart Fund, Saint Joseph's Children Hospital, or any charity of your choice.
