Maurice Cliffly Workman Jr., age 92, of Lakewood, NJ, went peacefully to be with his Lord Saturday January 2nd, 2021. Born in Chicago, IL and son of Maurice Sr. and Lilian Workman. He also had a residence in Bradenton, FL where he enjoyed spending his winters. Graduated University of IL with a degree in Accounting. Played in the Marching band there & loved music. Served our country for the Army in the Korean War and then in 1953 came home to marry his wife of 61 years, Helen Roberta Patterson “Pat” (deceased 2014). They had their first son Greg (deceased 2003) that same year and started a family. He began his career with Benjamin Moore & Company in 1950 and became their President in 1970, where he resided for 26 years until retiring in 1996. Maurie served on the Board at BM & Co. for another 4 years until Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway purchased the company. He also served on the Board of Directors of Eastern Baptist Theology Seminary at Eastern University in Wayne, PA. Maurie enjoyed watching Yankee games and playing, singing, conducting and listening to music. He started a choral group in The Fairways development in Lakewood. He was a dedicated Christian his entire life and donated his time & talents to the Lord. Most recently a member of Living Word Baptist Church in Beachwood, NJ.
He will be forever loved, cherished, and remembered by his family and friends. He leaves behind his sons Geoff, Paul (Mary), Steve (Valerie), and daughter Susan. Fortunate to have 6 Grandchildren (Christina, Brian, Brittany, Erika, Jessica, and Stephen), 4 Great Grandchildren (Lily, Eli, Avry, and Benjamin) and sister (Dolores).
Arrangements are under the direction of the D'Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Burial will be held privately at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
