Fred proudly served his country in the US Army from 1964 to 1969, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries received in Vietnam. He retired from Parker-Hannifin in Ravenna in 2005. His hobbies included going to auctions and flea markets, browsing antique stores, reading westerns, and watching football. He also spent a lot of time working in his yard and sitting on his front porch taking in the Ohio sunshine. However, what he held most dear to his heart was his family, kids, and grandkids, who he cherished and lived for each and every day.
He is survived by his children: Daniel Mottern of Florence, KY and Shelby (Matt) Simon of Medina; his grandchildren: Alexander Mottern of Akron, Bryce Morris and Reed Simon both of Medina; his sister Beverly (Donald) Kerr of Rootstown, along with his niece Renee (Edward) Croft and their children Courtney and Colin Croft. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Bernice (Walker) Mottern of Randolph, and his niece Stephanie Kerr of Rootstown.
Private services for Fred’s family will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Randolph with full military honors and officiated by his son-in-law, Matt Simon. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.
