Alfonzo Chang was born on March 14, 1927 in Yin Ping county, Kwangtung province, China. His wife was the late Ping Sou Chang. At the suggestion of his father, Alfonzo emigrated from China to Panama in the 1950s and later to Venezuela. His wife and two sons would later join him in the 1960s and a third child would be born to them in their new homeland.
At age 55, Alfonzo retired from his successful supermarket business and with his wife immigrated to the U.S., settling in Middle Village, Queens, New York. In 2000, Alfonzo heard the Gospel and became a Christian. Soon after he was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Flushing. He loved playing music and enjoyed spending time with family, over meals and on trips, during holidays and weekends. He was a generous, quiet, simple man, who loved much without saying much. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children Chow Ling, Alejandro (“Alex”) and Soraya; his daughters-in-law Siu Mui (“Jenny”) and Siu Ching; his son-in-law Joseph Louis Cina; his grandchildren Carolina Forsyth (Kurt), Victoria Mishra (Michael), Alvin Chang, Steven Chang (Jenn), Sofia Cina and Jonathan Cina; and his great-grandchildren Asher and Emeline.
