Our loving mother, Edna Evelyn (Terry) Sims of Sun City, passed away at the age of 88 on April 1, 2021. She was born to Gladys and Thurston Terry in December 1932 in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in May 1950. Edna attended one year of college at Central College in Fayette, Missouri.
She married Edgar Sims in April 1952 and was married for 30 years. Edna is survived by her five children: Terry (Debbie) Sims, David (Debra) Sims, JoBeth (John) Ladd, Susan (Brian) Cotts and Martin Sims, along with seven grandchildren: Justin Ladd, Randy (Libby) Ladd, Kenny Ladd, Timothy Cain, Brian Cain, Clare Sims, Emmett Sims, two great-grandchildren: Jack and Owen Ladd and two nieces: Carolyn Terry and Donna Lujan.
She is predeceased by her parents Thurston Terry, Gladys Kelly, stepfather Vern Kelly and brother Donald Terry.
After moving to Phoenix in 1962, Edna worked for General Electric for several years before beginning work for Phoenix Union High School District. She initially worked as a secretary in the counseling office at Maryvale High School in 1969 and then moved to managing Mayvale's bookstore before moving to the Phoenix Union District office. She retired after over 25 years with the district.
Edna was an accomplished pianist and often played the piano and organ for the Methodist church she attended. She was also an excellent seamstress and made many outfits, often matching ones, for herself and her daughters. She passed on her love for sewing to both her daughters. The boys also benefitted from her sewing abilities with new pairs of crazy Hawaiian shorts each summer.
She spent much of her retirement traveling with friends, volunteering at various places and playing in several bridge groups. Edna's favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved nothing better than hosting them at her house for birthdays and holiday dinners.
Services will be private for family only.
