Michael Stakleff, 99, passed away April 22, 2021 after a rich and rewarding life as a beloved husband, father, Dedo, great grandfather, world traveler, storyteller, and friend to so many. He was born February 5, 1922 in Jerusalem to Stephan and Magdalena (Georgief) Schtakleff, being the only son with five sisters. In 1947, he met and married the love of his life, Leppa, and they were blessed to share over 73 years together.
Immigrating to the United States in 1956 with Leppa and 3 young sons Steve, Alex, and Simon in tow. He and Leppa settled in Akron, Ohio, where their fourth son, Tom, was born. Mike began a fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic for over 30 years and then transitioned into teaching in the CETA program and Akron Public Schools. He enjoyed teaching and working with young adults to help put them on a path for success. After retiring, he enjoyed operating his own garage for several years. He always had a real estate deal in mind and enjoyed his retirement years in Florida with Leppa. He was a Freemason and a dedicated member of St. Thomas Eastern Orthodox church.
Mike will be remembered for his zest for life with a twinkle in his bright blue eyes. He couldn’t resist a joke or sharing stories of his life and many travels around the world. Fluent in over 6 languages, he could easily adapt to any conversation he was engaged in. His family, near and far, meant everything to him.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leppa, son Steve (and Mary) and his five sisters. He is survived by his sons Alex (Kimberly), Simon (Beth), Tom (Michele), grandchildren Mike, Krista, Brandon, Chad, Daniel, Sloan, great granddaughters Alice, Milana, Alexis and Emily. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 8th from 12:00 -2:00 pm at Rose Hill Funeral Home 3653 W Market St. Akron, OH 44333. The Funeral Service on Monday, May 10th at 11:00 am, with visitation 1 hour prior at Thomas Eastern Orthodox Church 555 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Fairlawn, OH 44333, Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
