Preston “Leon” Hines passed away on May 7, 2021 at the age of 70. Leon was a 1968 graduate of Junction City High School. He continued on to Southern State University where he graduated with a degree in Biology. He completed his education with a doctorate of pharmacy from Northeast Louisiana University. He began his career as a pharmacist at the El Dorado Pharmacy then moved to Warner Brown Hospital. After purchasing the Junction City Pharmacy, Leon served the Dragon Nation for 23 years before retiring in 2016.
Leon was a member of Three Creeks Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also represented Christ through Gideon International. Leon was an original member of the Three Creeks Sandsifters championship softball team. He was an avid sportsman of all types of game and a member of the Boys Deer Club. In the years after his retirement, Leon enjoyed chasing after his grandchildren from baseball, softball, and football games to recitals, concerts, and academic presentations.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Preston Hines and Maxine (Cameron) Hines.
Leon is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sherry (Loftin) Hines; two daughters. Sadie Dodson (Joey) of Denver, CO and Katie McGoogan (Jason) of Wesson, AR; one brother, John Hines (Joel) of Lafayette, LA; eight grandchildren, Mattie Motl (Ryan) of Arkadelphia, AR; Brock McGoogan of Ruston, LA; Kinnon Dodson (Hannah) of El Dorado, AR; Grace McGoogan of Lafayette, LA; Aidan Dodson of Denver, CO; Wittney McGoogan of Wesson, AR; Lain Dodson of Denver, CO; and Caspian Dodson of Denver, CO, and one great granddaughter, Miriam Motl of Arkadelphia, AR.
A celebration of Leon’s life will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 10:00 am with visitation preceding on Monday night from 5:00-7:00 pm. Both will be held at Three Creeks Baptist Church.
