While Carol Lois Joachim, who was called to heaven on June 11, 2021 just after midnight when the stars were bright, the air was peaceful, and surrounded by the love of her family, would not have called herself an entertainer, the truth is she was captivating. Carol always commanded a room with her striking beauty, her confidence and her intelligence. She did call herself a teacher and through her passion for imparting knowledge and her deep love for everyone she met, she touched many lives.
Carol was born on August 15, 1935 to Wright and Lois Bartlett in Phoenix, Arizona. She is now reunited with her parents, as well as her brother Bill and sister Betty.
She attended and graduated from the University of Arizona where she met the love of her life, Richard. Their romance began at first sight when he saw her outside of her Delta Gamma sorority house and knew he had to meet her. That first encounter laid the foundation for 65 years of marriage and a family that Carol was deeply proud of.
Together, Richard and Carol raised five children: Lori, Leslie, Richard, Linda, and Bill. They have eight grandchildren: Bandy, Jordan, Kelli, Jessica, Natalie, Kelsey, Tanis, and Jones. And nine great-grandchildren: Karli, Samantha, Alyssa, Mikayla, Beckett, Collins, Taylor, Ruby, and Rhodes.
Before devoting her time to raising her family, Carol was a kindergarten teacher. And as any teacher of young children needs, she truly did have eyes in the back of her head. Given how many family members are listed above, you can see how she maintained this skill well beyond her school teaching career.
As a dedicated mother, she actively participated in school organizations, attended every event her children/grandchildren participated in, and became a second mom to many. She never met a stranger and she never failed to bring laughter and a bright shining smile to every conversation. She participated and held leadership roles in many women’s social and charitable organizations.
She was also a woman of strong faith, who was dedicated to sharing the teachings of God to fellow women through her bible study leadership for 30 years. Her commitment to crafting and delivering impactful lessons was second to none.
Carol enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and was always a social butterfly with a large circle of friends. You could often find her reading novels or the newspaper, chiming in with the answers while viewing Jeopardy, criticizing any sub-par game of world champion athletes, forbidding her many granddaughters to wear crop tops, leading the Joachims in singing happy birthday numerous times for all the summer birthdays, and enjoying a meal or glass of wine in the company of her husband. Carol hosted beautiful holiday gatherings throughout the years, uniting immediate and extended family alike. She was our Queen Bee and is now our North Star.
She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her fierce love, her dedication to God, and the legacy of her large and loud family- who miss her dearly and always will.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 26, 2021 at Desert Christian Fellowship at 10:30 AM. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association by selecting the link below.
