It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dave Berggren on October 4, 2021 at Swift Current, SK at the age of 74. Dave is once again with his cherished Diane who predeceased him February 16, 2021.
Dave was born on April 20, 1947 in Moose Jaw to Eric and Elaine Berggren. He was the second eldest brother of Randy, Daryl, Kathy and Ross. As a little boy, Dave loved to wander, keeping his mom and dad very busy. During the summer, Dave along with his brothers would spend summers at the family farm in Assiniboia with their Grandma and Uncle Herb. This was the start of Dave's love for farming. Growing up, their family lived in many places including Moose Jaw, FlinFlon and Fort Qu'Appelle. Dave's outgoing personality made it possible to make friends wherever they moved. Dave completed his schooling in Fort Qu'Appelle and in 1965 moved to the farm in Assiniboia.
In 1966, Dave met the love of his life and they were married shortly after in 1967 and were married for over 50 years. The love and devotion they felt for each other will last throughout eternity. They will continue to dance together and walk along a beach hand in hand.
In 1968, Dave and Diane moved to Saskatoon where he began his career to become an electrician, which he continued to do for many years. Even when he came back to the family farm in 1975, he continued being an electrician for Plan It Electric and then his own company.
As time passed, they were blessed with three boys, Ken born in 1968, Colin in 1970 and Trevor in 1978. Throughout the years of raising a family, Dave and Diane lived in Brandon, Saskatoon, the farm, Assiniboia and lastly Swift Current. Dave was always there for his kids. He was at every hockey, football and baseball game. He helped coach and was there to drive them where they needed to go. He was always in their corner supporting them unconditionally. Dave and Diane created a home that always welcomed their boys' friends to come over and there was always a couch or a spare bed available if one of their friends needed a place to stay.
Over the years, their children grew up and started lives of their own. Even as the boys got older, the connection they shared with their dad remained strong. Phone calls and visits were never far apart.
As time passed, the family grew as Ken married Marni and had three boys, Cody, Travis and Joel, Colin married Lori, their family Jesse, Whitney, Sara and Kandra and Trevor married Heidi and their children Kaitlyn, Jaycee and Drayden. Dave's wife, children and grandchildren meant everything to him, many get-togethers and holiday trips as a family including trips to Mexico and the mountains.
After their family was grown, Dave enjoyed golfing, watching old western movies, having coffee with friends and travelling to beautiful places with Diane. Family and friends were important to Dave, visits and phone calls happened often with his children, brothers, sister, uncle and many close family and friends. Oh and we cannot forget about his other true love, his love of anything with wheels! It was top down and cruising in his shiny new Camaro leaving all his troubles behind.
Dave enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren and was their biggest fan. Living in
Assiniboia, he was able to see Cody, Travis and Joel often. When Dave and Diane moved to Swift Current, they were able to spend more time with their other grandchildren. Dave spent lots of time at Sask Landing with Kaitlyn, Jaycee and Drayden. In addition, it made Dave so happy that he was able to reconnect with Jesse and Whitney over the past few years. It was wonderful that he was able to see all his grandchildren in the last week of his life.
Dave was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew and friend and truly loved by all. He will be dearly missed. Thank you to all the family and friends who visited and called Dave during his illness and to Anette and Gary at Ross Funeral Service for your compassion and kindness over the past year.
