Rosemary Catherine Ferrie, of Austin, Texas, the third of four children to William J. Egan and Catherine Elliott Egan, passed peacefully into Spirit on November 18, 2011. Born on January 7, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, she is survived by her husband, Parmely T. Ferrie, whom she married on July 27, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Their union produced six children (Pamela Estabrook, Christine Estabrook, James MacEgan, Eileen Ramsey, Thomas MacEgan and Catherine Schwanke), fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
An alumna of St. Joseph’s Academy, Rosemary received a full scholarship to St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing. While at St. Alexis, she joined the Cadet Nurse Corps, serving between 1944 and 1946. She later received her AA Degree from Mesa College in San Diego and spent most of her nursing career helping alcoholics and drug addicts return to sobriety.
Rosemary had a keen eye for design and was skilled in working with leaded glass, gifting her family with numerous pieces of art. Ever the adventurer, she and Parm traveled throughout the world. She had an upbeat sense of humor and a ready smile, putting others instantly at ease. A devoted mother and grandmother, she never met a baby she didn’t love.
Rosemary Ferrie – Loved much, laughed often and left this world a better place.
