Maurice Emery “Hawk” Hawkins, 65 of Kansas City, Missouri went to be with the Lord on Monday March 30, 2020. Maurice was born June 15,1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to John and Lydia (Hunter) Hawkins. Maurice was educated in Kansas City, Missouri public schools systems at Sanford B. Ladd Elementary, Central Jr. and graduated from Central Sr. High School. Maurice attended DeVry University and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Kansas City, Missouri, Maurice was a self-employed General Contractor, remodeling and repairing homes through his company "Hawk Property Restorations" until his health declined.
Maurice was preceded in death by both parents John and Lydia Hawkins, sister Judy Porter and two brothers, Claude "Butch" Hawkins and Fredrick "Fred" Hawkins.
He leaves to mourn his passing wife, Carolyn Hawkins (Cravens), son Daelon Cravens (Nyauna), daughters Shelita Berry, Carmen Stringer and Lydia Johnson (Rico), sisters Earlene Johnson, Marguerite Hawkins-Wilson, Sandra Williams and Alta Hawkins, a brother Harold Hawkins Sr. and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Maurice never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved to BBQ and enjoyed cookouts, music, chess, traveling, and sharing childhood memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who they affectionately called “Grandpa”.
Maurice is loved and will be missed by many near and far.
A celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, Kansas City, MO. The service will be livestreamed at facebook.com/mcgilley memorial chapel-midtown.
