She is survived by her only child, Rochelle (Shelley) Hammond (Irv). Her grandchildren: Julie Hammond, Mitchell (Shivonne St. Pierre) Hammond and Chelsea Hammond. Her great granddaughters: Samantha Itter, Katarina and Trinity Dryborough, Blythe and Meredith O’Dell. Two brothers in law Earl (Eleanor), Albert (Joan) and one sister in law Francis out of 11 couples remain.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Roy. Veronica was the last of her family group. She had six half siblings and one brother who predecease her.
Veronica was raised in the small village of Pine River, Manitoba. She married Roy in Minnedosa Manitoba, and they left the area when Roy enlisted in the army. From there they lived in Shilo Manitoba, Edmonton Alberta and retiring from Cold Lake Alberta to Abbotsford B.C. where they lived to their passing. But their hearts always belonged back in Manitoba where their roots were.
Veronica had varied interests during her life. Politics, religion, family and sports. She excelled at golf, curling and bowling winning many events. When her body started failing, she watched avidly on TV hockey, baseball, just about any sport. She read the paper daily.
Mom fought as hard as she could since Dad died in 2017, she really was existing moment to moment. Her body continued to give up long before her spirit did. Being moved to full care with all the Covid protocols of no contact was the last straw. Mom just let go.
Due to Covid a funeral service was not held. A small intimate graveyard service was attended by immediate family at Musselwhite Cemetery July 22, 2020. The celebrant was Father Eduardo Quintero.
Again, due to Covid there was no tea either.
The family would like to thank the many care workers who entered Veronica’s life at Chartwell Carrington and Maple Hill.
