Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He served our country in the United States Air Force as active duty from 1962 to 1966 and as a reservist from 1966 to 1970. Education was Jim’s passion. He was well read and enjoyed learning. Jim’s education consisted of attending Parkwood Elementary, Alfred I DuPont High School, Florida Baptist College where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in English and Louisiana State where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Theology. He was a middle and high school educator for over 25 years, a leader in the church, serving in various roles for more than 50 years.
Jim loved the Lord, had a strong sense of family. He was dedicated to his church and many, many friends. He was proud of his grandson, Seth and was constantly amused by his grand fur babies, Charlie, Lucy, Max, Mollie and Wilma. He enjoyed music, working out and spending time with his family. His smile was infectious, and his kindness and warmth, genuine. He will be sorely missed, leaving a void that cannot be filled.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley Taylor Carson whom he met in Lakeland, Florida in 1966. They married in 1970 and would have celebrated 50 wedded years together on August 21, 2020. Jim also leaves behind his son, Paul William and wife Margo (Taft), daughter, Mindy Suzanne and husband Brad (Jones), son, Stephen John and grandson, Seth along with his sister, Mary Elaine and husband John Grimaldi, niece, Gina Grimaldi and a multitude of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Jim is predeceased by his eldest son, Donald James and his parents, William James and Thelma McCartt.
A graveside service will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale, Florida on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00am.
