On July 21, 2020, Cheryl Lorraine Hopkins transitioned into her heavenly home. Cheryl was born February 5, 1953, first born of five children to Annie L. Johnson and Howard Johnson, Sr. Cheryl grew up in Cairo, Illinois, and joined First Central Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, under the leadership of Rev. W.M. Vaughn. Cheryl sang in the choir and was secretary of the Sunday School.
In later years, she married her high school sweetheart, Victor Reginald Hopkins, on March 29, 1975. They lived briefly in Chicago, Illinois with their only child, Dedric. Later they moved to Texas, where they raised three nephews, Charles, Cass, and Lacey, as well as two nieces, Diondra and Robyn. Cheryl united with Hamilton Park Methodist Church in 1983.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reggie, her father, Howard Johnson, Sr, and her brother, Arthur Anthony Johnson.
Cheryl is survived by her son, Dedric Ramon Hopkins, her precious granddaughter, Nicole Noel Hopkins, her mother, Annie Lee Johnson, and three siblings, Russell Johnson, Luella Ivy (Gerald), and Howard Johnson, Jr. (Marlene).
Cheryl was a spirited person who believed and trusted in the Lord! She believed in helping anyone in need when she could. She has left her mark on many. Cheryl loved the Lord, and prayed for many. It was nothing for her and prayer partners, Cathy Parker, Beverly Gallimore, Rev. Archie and Eleanor Brown, Wilma Barnett, Sheila Dickerson, Dee Dee Spivey, and others, to pray for those in need . She had many good and dear friends, as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She will truly be missed by all.
