Eileen was born on June 11, 1932 to the late Francis and Dora (Eifert) Hatt in Lansing, Michigan. She attended the Lansing schools and graduated from Sexton High School. She furthered her education at Michigan State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Education. Eileen then taught elementary students in the Lansing schools for more than 35 years.
After retiring, Eileen became active as a volunteer and manager for the Sparrow Hospital gift shop. She was active with Meals On Wheels, member and president of the Jugs and Mugs ski club, member and president of a local MENSA chapter and was a talented tole painter which earned her an honor of visiting the White House and placing her winning Christmas ornament on the Christmas tree.
Eileen is survived by nephews Lawrence, Robert and Paul Battiste and nieces Renee’ Goss and Lynn Berezny, five great-nieces and four great-nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by parents Francis and Dora Hatt and sister Evelyn (Hatt) Battiste.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of New Life Assisted Living West in Haslett and the Compassus Hospice care services. Their care was exceptional during the Covid-19 lockdown.
