Silas remained a lifelong resident of Webberville. He graduated from high school in 1951. Si joined the United States Army and served from 1956-1958. After the Army, he worked in the Printing and Mailing division for the Michigan State Police until he retired in 1988.
Si was known and adored by many in the community. He was a proud member of the Webberville United Methodist Church and volunteered at the local elementary school. Silas loved gospel music and barbershop singing. He was a member of the Capitol City Chordsmen for many years. Silas enjoyed sports, particularly baseball. He attended many Tigers and Lugnuts games over the decades. Si was also a huge MSU fan. The MSU women's basketball team/staff knew him by name. He regularly attended the Williamston Senior Center and enjoyed going to the movies. Silas cherished spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Ann (Gilson) Bement, Daughter Teresa (John) Field, Sister Helen (Robert) Bigelow, Brother Robert (Joan) Bement, Grandchildren Erica (Todd) Monroe, Jessica (Frank) Herren, Nathan Heximer, Great Grandchildren Hunter, Dylon, Wyatt, Harper, Hayden and Hadley.
Also, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on July 10, 2021 at Webberville Methodist Church, 4215 Holt Rd.
