Mickey grew up in the area now called NODA on East 36th St. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. He joined the USAF in January 1960 with four of his best friends and became a morse intercept operator with tours in Korea and on the Island of Crete, Greece. He was hired as a letter carrier with the USPS in 1963 and was promoted to Delivery Superintendent in 1981 at the Park Rd post office. In 1982 he was promoted to Superintendent of Postal Operations at the Belmont Post Office. In 1985 he was promoted to Postmaster, Belmont, NC where he remained until retirement.
Mickey graduated from CPCC in December 1975 with Associates Degree in Business Administration. He also served in the NC Air National Guard in 1971 and retired as Senior MSgt in 1991.
Mickey was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Betty Barringer McKeon. He is survived by his sons John Martin McKeon and Phillip Michael (Joy) McKeon; grandson Zachary Barringer McKeon; sisters Patricia (Joseph) Swann of Mint Hill and Jacquline Rion of Lexington; many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
A private Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Sharon Memorial Park with Pastor Scott Suskovic officiating. Due to current restrictions with the covid-19 virus the graveside service will be for family members only.
