A private service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Chapel at 2pm, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Harley and Lindsay O’ Rear.
Daughter of Agnes Johnson Hunnicutt, Mrs. Farr was born November 4, 1925. She grew up in Greer, graduated from Greer High School and attended North Greenville Junior College.
She is survived by her husband of over 64 years, Homer Andrew Farr, Jr. Together they raised their children: Linda Farr Gillespie (Easley); Bidney Harrison Bozard; and Homer Andrew Farr, III (Karen), both of Greenville. Mrs. Farr was predeceased by a son, Michael Harrison; a son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Jack Bozard Jr; her sister, Lois Johnson Hughes; and a brother, George Mitchell.
The Farrs were richly blessed to celebrate the births of six grandchildren: Samuel Gillepsie (Easley); Michael Andrew Bozard (Kristen) and James Edward Bozard (Shannon) all of Columbia; Nicholas Farr (Jill) Katie Farr Hardman (Jason); and Kayla Farr Bell (Justin) – all of Greenville.
Amazingly, Lena and Homer have also been able to become great-grandparents of nine great-grandchildren: Jackson Bozard; Marlee Hardman, Tanner Bozard; Brooklynn Farr, Margaret Anne Bozard; Hayden Farr; Taylor and Walker Bozard (twins); and Nolan Bell.
Mrs. Farr had been an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church since 1956 where she had worked with the Girls’ Auxiliary and was the “Card Lady” to her Senior Sunday School Class until her health decline.
Lena loved her family and her church family but would have continued working until the present had her years and health allowed. She was an employee of Southern Bleachery and later became an Executive Secretary to Max Heller at Maxon. A number of years later she served as Executive Secretary to Dalton Wright of Reliance Electric Company until her retirement she continued her career as an Executive Secretary at Bigelow Industries.
When Mrs. Farr wasn’t working and raising four children, she enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzle solving, and enriching the lives of her grandchildren and great-grands. She was much loved for her humor, sassiness, and her unadulterated love. One of the last memories was hearing four-year-old Nolan Bell sing “Jesus Loves Me” at her bedside the evening before her death, surrounded by many of her family. Each grandchild and great-grandchild treasures the shopping trips; the outlandish interpretations she gave to local businesses such as BB&T; and even helping to potty train them using trees in her backyard. These were the treasures she bequeathed to all of her family.
Lena Farr’s passing was what she had long prayed for: to “go” in her sleep. In a matter of seconds she silently drew her final breath and peacefully made her transition to the amazing promise of Eternal Life.
Don’t cry because it’s over.
Smile because it happened.
Mrs. Farr’s family would like to thank Homestead Hospice for their months of care, especially Becky Davis (nurse); Porsha Anderson (nurse) and her devoted aide Melissa Brown.
Memorials may be made to Taylors First Baptist Church (200 W Main St, Taylors, SC 29687) and Homestead Hospice (109 Laurens Rd Building 1A Greenville, SC 29607).
