James Lonnie Willis, 74, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 after a lengthy illness. A Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road. Rev. Len Woodard will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 1349 W. Peachtree St., NE STE 1800, Atlanta GA 30309.
Lonnie was born in Macon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, James Willis and mother and stepfather, Martha and Andrew Durr. He served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam War. Lonnie served thirty-eight years in Law Enforcement with Macon PD, Bibb County Sheriff's Department and Monroe County Sheriff's Department, retiring as a Sergeant. He was a member of the FOP Lodge, and was a member of Ole Street Racers Club. Lonnie enjoyed racing and driving fast cars and motorcyles. He was a gifted artist and woodworker. Lonnie was a member and Deacon of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Forsyth. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his children, Kelli (Keith) Wilder of Macon, Brant (Amy) Willis of Macon, Chad (Paige) Willis of Juliette, Casey Willis, (fiancé Francis) of Sarasota, grandchildren, Brittany Pratts, Gunner Yonce, Josey Yonce, Navy Yonce, Cole Willis, Taylor Willis, Paisley Willis and Rhodes Dean, five great grandchildren, siblings, Karen Yarbrough (Tripp), Andi Mitchell (Ray), Drew Durr (Julia), Mike Willis (Tammy) and Sheree Guido (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
