Lionel Fitz-Herbert Earl, Sr. (also affectionately known as Eddie) was called to rest on Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Morristown, New Jersey. He passed away peacefully with his daughter Dawn and her husband Terence by his side.
Lionel, a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Isaac and Gwendolyn Earl on April 26, 1923; the first of three children. Isaac and Gwendolyn later gave birth to Lionel’s brother Aston, and his sister Elaine.
Upon completion of his education, Lionel was employed as a Civil Servant with the Jamaica National Water Authority where he spent most of his employment years. His job with the Jamaica National Water Authority took him to various parts of Jamaica. It was on one of those job assignments, to the parish of Westmoreland, that he met his future wife, Lucy Palmer.
Lionel remained dedicated and committed to the National Water Authority until his retirement in 1978. Following his retirement, he relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida, becoming a member of Tubman-King Community Church, Daytona Beach, where he served as a Deacon for several years. He was a man of faith and prayer, who truly loved God, and was always willing to help those who were in need.
This man of God, was a loving husband, devoted father, and a protector and provider for his family. His grandchildren, however, were the apple of his eye. He, also, enjoyed entertaining visitors in his home and was especially fond of having lively conversations with, and giving advice to, his children and their friends. His hobbies included telling jokes, repairing cars, and gardening.
Lionel’s parents predeceased him in death, as did his wife Lucy in 1993, and his brother Aston in 2009. He will be greatly missed by his sister Elaine Gage, his children: Peggy Thomas (Michael), Maria Morris (Jay), Dawn Donnelly (Terence), Verona Earl, Aston Earl (Andrea), Lionel Earl, Jr. (Sylvia), and tremendously missed by his grandchildren: Trisha Chung, Brianna Davis, Zachery Morris, Jonelle Weagraff (Evan), Lionel Earl, III, Marissa Morris, and Kenneth Earl.
He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, with a third one on the way; nieces including Deanna Chambers (Everton), nephews including Stuart Gage (Liz) and Travers Gage (Sheri); brother-in-law Caswell Hylton; sisters-in-law: Maud Stewart, Sheila Burgess, Eula Pryce, Delsie Hylton and Sadie Stewart; in addition to cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
