Virgil, the youngest of two children, was born on March 10, 1923 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Peter and Isabelle Grenewetzki. He graduated from high school in Benton Harbor and attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. After enlisting in the US Army Air Corps in 1942, he served in the Pacific until his discharge in 1946. Following his service, he attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration. Following college, he worked in sales for General Mills followed by a long tenure at Chevron Chemical where he worked until his retirement.
He met his wife-to-be Mary Bandrofchak, on a blind date in Ann Arbor where he was a student and they were married one year later on June 18, 1949. They raised two children, David and Susan.
Following their wedding, Mary and Virgil lived in Michigan (Dearborn, Lansing and Ludington) and Toledo, Ohio before moving to Walnut Creek, California in 1960. Following Virgil’s retirement in 1982, they moved to Arizona, first to Sun City West and then Peoria.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his daughter Susan (Moore), and his sister Donna (Russ).
He is survived by his son David, grandchildren Allison, Jennifer, Kelley, Matt and Peter, great-grandchildren Beatrice, Henry and Otis as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial will be held for Virgil. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley (www.hov.org) in his name.
