Dr. Suzanne L. Corrigan, age 70, died on Saturday May 22, 2021 in the comfort of her own
home and surrounded by the love of her family, and support of her beloved husband of over 46
years, John James Corrigan III.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 30, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Jeannette &
Emile LeBel. The oldest of four children, she has always been a trailblazer. A brilliant scholar
throughout school, she found her calling in life early when she declared she wanted to be a
doctor in elementary school. With the support of her parents she eagerly pursued her dream to
become a pediatrician, as she truly believed that “children are the hope of the future and of our
world, and it means a lot to me to be able to participate in their growth process”. She graduated
as class valedictorian from high school, and then attended Regis College for her undergraduate
degree in Chemistry. During her senior year she met the love of her life, and graduated
magnum cum laude. She then attended Boston University’s School of Medicine for her first 2
years, and after getting married, moved to Texas to complete her last 2 years of medical school
at UT Southwestern Dallas. She completed her Residency at Children’s Medical Center Dallas/UTSW.
After which she became a prominent and well respected pediatrician in the Dallas area. She
also served in multiple leadership positions during her career including past president of the
Pediatric Society of Greater Dallas, Chairperson of Public Relations for the Texas Chapter of the
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), as well as serving on several National Committee’s for
the AAP. She retired well before she planned, due to prolonged illness, but kept her medical
license active and her mind sharp.
With all of her success and career accolades, she would still say that her greatest joy and
accomplishment was being an amazing mother to her 3 children, and a wonderful memere to
her 4 grandchildren. Serving always as a source of inspiration and guidance, her 2 daughters
followed in her footsteps and became pediatricians as well, and her son a successful patent
attorney.
She is survived by her best friend and husband, John James Corrigan III; her eldest daughter
Nicole Corrigan-Garrett, MD and Scott Garrett, and their 2 children, Luke (8 yo) and Claire (6
yo), her youngest daughter Danielle Corrigan Beachler, MD and Nicholas Beachler, and their 2
children, Steel (5 yo) and Sterling (3 yo), and her son John James Corrigan IV, Esq; her 2
brothers, Denis LeBel, and Gerald and Wendy Lebel; and their 2 children Brittani and Rachael
LeBel; her sister Francine and Richard Noel, and their 2 children Renee and Garrett Keimig,
and Michael and Corrine Noel; and her 2 sisters-in-law Mary Corrigan, PhD, and Susie and Dev
Malik and their children Ian and Chase; her aunt Jill Mullin; and her cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette and Emile Lebel, and by her mother and
father-in-law, Vivian and John James Corrigan II.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Alma Martinez, for providing love and
compassionate care over the last 4 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to UT Southwestern Medical Center,
PO Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391 - 0888 or online at engage.utsouthwestern.edu to support
