Rita was born on February 4, 1959 to Richard N. Rimac and Margaret M Rimac in Chicago, IL. She lived and grew up in Addison, IL and attended Illinois State University and the Thunderbird School of Management in Arizona. She studied for a semester in Bonn, Germany.
She met her husband Bob Potter on a trip to the Holy Lands. They married in 1990 in Chicago and moved to Coppell, TX. She worked in records, data and compliance management in the software and financial industry for many years.
Rita thoroughly enjoyed traveling and visited many countries including Ireland, Hong Kong, China, France and most recently England where she was thrilled to visit Highclere Castle and had a day that honored Jane Austen.
She loved to read and was interested in a variety of cultural activities. Her calendar was always full of events that involved many with whom she wanted to spend time. She thoroughly enjoyed the symphony, opera, particularly the cast parties, museums, sacred music. She attended the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in Bloomington, IL for many years and was very active in the English-Speaking Union and went to several of their annual meetings.
Rita was a lifetime member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) and a member of the local JASNA-NTX region since its early days. Her genuine love of Jane was exhibited by her lively discussions, Regency dress, and active participation in JASNA events. She will be remembered as a sweet and caring woman and a devoted fan of all things Jane.
She was a member of the Coward-Williams Community Group of the MacArthur Blvd Baptist Church. She taught a woman’s class, sang in the choir and was an active participant in the Ladies Annual Christmas Dinner where she set and beautifully decorated many tables.
Rita is survived by her sisters Victoria (Wayne) Haynes of Addison, IL, and Sheila (Eric) Zimmermann of Altadena, CA. She is also survived by two nieces Pauline Wirbicki and Sara Zimmermann and one nephew Lance Zimmermann along with many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Potter, sister Mary-Margaret Rimac, her mother Margaret Rimac, and her father Richard Rimac.
She loved spending time with family and friends who became her family.
We know she will be present with us.
In Texas:
Visitation will be held at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, Coppell Texas on Tuesday June 8th from 5pm-8pm. A service celebrating her life will be held at the MacArthur Blvd Baptist Church at 11am on Wednesday June 9th
In Illinois:
A service will be held at the chapel at Queen of Heaven Cemetery at 11am on Friday June 18th with procession to the gravesite at Mount Carmel Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Greyhound Rescue Society of Texas aka Greyhounds Unlimited (https://www.greyhoundsunlimited.org/) are welcome as Rita doted on her greyhounds Honey, Miss Snoopy, Missy and Billy.
