MAY 5, 1944 – MARCH 22, 2020
Joseph Richard GAGNE was born on May 5, 1944 and passed away on March 22, 2020.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy, son, Steve Gagne, and daughter, Cindy Garvey.
He was born on May 5, 1944, to Albert and Exilia Gagne in Rochester, NH. He lived in Fort Pierce, Fl for the last 20 years. He and Judy raised their family in Rifle, CO and Kingston, NH prior to moving to Florida.
Joe as he was called by his friends or Richard as called by his relatives, was raised in Rochester, NH and graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1962. At that time, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served most of his time in Amarillo, TX.
After his 4 years in the Air Force he moved to Colorado and later met his wife, Judy. They were married in 1969. They had 2 children while in Colorado: Steve Gagne, who now resides in Ocala, FL, and Cindy Garvey, who lives in Jacksonville, FL.
Joe worked as a construction millwright while living in Colorado and worked at Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant while living in New Hampshire. He worked at Fairwinds Golf Course for 10 years in Fort Pierce, FL.
Joe lived in Spanish Lakes Fairways in Fort Pierce. He was active in the Men’s golf league and made many friends during his time there. He was always out to make all around him happy and loved to wear t-shirts or hats to make others laugh. His thought for the day was, “who can I make laugh today.” And one of his many favorite sayings was “Shut Up and Fish,” which was also on one of his hats.
Joe and his wife, Judy, spent many days traveling after moving to Florida. They both loved to golf and visit breweries in various parts of the country. Many can tell you stories about his endless adventures.
Joe has one granddaughter, Erin Garvey, who is now a freshman at Florida State University. He spent many hours with Erin as she grew up and always was available to give her a text to make her laugh or give her day to day to advice. She was truly his “buddy.”
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy, his children Steve Gagne and wife Julie, his daughter Cindy Garvey and husband Mike, his granddaughter, Erin Garvey, and many nieces and nephews, living in various parts of the US. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.
