Lee was born on October 25, 1925 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of James M. and Wilhelmina Zuberano Allen. He spent his childhood in Oyster Bay, New York, where he excelled in sports. He had many fond memories of growing up in simpler times. During WWII, he served in the 10th Mountain Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in support of combat operations in the Apennine Mountains and Po Valley, Italy.
In 1950, Lee married Marion Dowden Shane, who would be his wife for 52 years before she passed away in 2002. To support his growing family, he had a successful career as a marketing executive for various companies in the corporate office furniture industry. He was grateful and indebted to his mentors along the way.
Lee had an incredible work ethic, and a larger-than-life commitment to providing for his family. He was selfless to a fault, allowing himself only an occasional outing with his fishing pole. Books, however, sustained him, and he remained an avid reader until he died.
Lee was predeceased by his wife, and by his brother, David Smythe Allen. He is survived by his six children, Judith Allen, Georgia Farrell, Lee (Jeanne) Allen, J. Bradley (Martha Csala) Allen, Kathy (Francis) Horohoe and Meredith Allen. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kathryn, Sean, Kathleen, Francis, Hannah, Elizabeth, Christine and Lauren; and by three great granddaughters, Lida, Uma, and Wren.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth, where our father lived for the last three years of his life, much of that time during COVID. You will never know how much our dad appreciated you for your generosity, your humor and your humanity.
