Specializing in Catholic services

As a trusted provider for many Catholic families in the area, we are especially experienced in planning services rooted in the Catholic tradition. From coordinating a full funeral mass to arranging for a priest or deacon, we honor the sacred rituals and spiritual significance that guide your faith.

We can help with rosary services, vigil prayers and readings that hold deep meaning. Whether the service is held at your parish or in our chapel, we work closely with clergy and family to ensure every detail aligns with your beliefs.

Cremation in Gaithersburg

Avg Cremation Costs by US State 2More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways. We offer families the opportunity to spend time with their loved ones before cremation, expertise in scattering ashes and the option for home delivery of ashes.

We work with all area cemeteries to plan memorialization. For those who wish for something more momentous, Neptune Memorial Reef® is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

History

The year was 1946. World War II had just ended, the troops were coming home, Harry Truman was president, and the nation was about to embark on a path of unparalleled growth and prosperity. It was also the year that the DeVol patriarch, H. Don DeVol, purchased the James Clements Funeral Home. In 1947, H. Don DeVol moved Clements Funeral Home to 2224 Wisconsin Ave. and gave the business his name.

While the country was settling into life in the postwar era, H. Don DeVol established a reputation for providing caring and considerate funeral services in the Washington area. DeVol Funeral Home's reputation grew.

In the late ’50s and early ’60s, his sons—Robert A. DeVol, John F. DeVol and James E. DeVol—joined their father in the family business. In 1961, DeVol Funeral Home expanded to its current Georgetown location.

As the years passed and Washington, D.C., evolved into the metropolis it is today, DeVol Funeral Home also grew. In 1988, work was completed on our facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland. That year also saw the third generation of sons enter the family business; Robert G. DeVol and Kevin G. DeVol joined their father, uncle and grandfather to help families honor their loved ones.

In 2025, both the D.C. and Maryland locations of DeVol Funeral Home became part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral homes, crematories and cemeteries. We continue to build on a legacy of service excellence, going the extra mile for every family with a level of care and compassion that's uncommon in this world.
