Rooted in Heritage

The Benner name carries deep historical and personal significance in Fort Erie. Its lineage traces back to the United Empire Loyalists who served with Butler’s Rangers in the American Revolution and fought in the War of 1812. For generations, the Benner family has helped shape the community, from early settlers like John Benner and his descendants to more recent family members whose contributions as local business owners, civic leaders and long‑standing residents have left a lasting mark on the Niagara Region. This legacy lives on through the Benner Funeral Services, which proudly carries the family name and the tradition it represents.

The History of Benner Funeral Services

Before becoming a funeral home, the building was home to Leo’s Restaurant—a beloved local establishment dating back to the 1960s, known for its exceptional service and deep commitment to the community. Nearly every prominent member of a service club or professional association was known to frequent Leo’s. In 2001, the property was renovated and transformed into Benner Funeral Services, preserving the spirit of care, service and compassion that defined Leo’s Restaurant for decades.
