About

For generations, Settegast and Kopf have been trusted names in the Houston area, known for pairing compassionate care with exceptional service. Since the founding of The Settegast-Kopf Company in 1901, we’ve created farewells as unique as the lives they honor.

Our classic brick funeral home, located just off the Southwest Freeway, offers a warm and welcoming place to gather with family and friends. What families tell us matters most, however, is not our space but the attention and generosity they receive from our staff. Many have shared that they were treated with extreme care and professionalism during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

That level of service is what sets us apart. It’s our promise to every family who comes through our doors.

From heartfelt prayers to joyful songs, incense to candlelight, garden parties to golf-themed events, we make sure your family’s wishes, traditions and cultural expressions are honored.

A legacy of service since 1901

The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar CreekThe story of The Settegast-Kopf Company begins in Houston at the turn of the 20th century. In the mid-1800s, Ed Settegast ran one of the city’s finest livery companies, while John Kopf worked as a skilled cabinetmaker. In 1901, the two men combined their talents to create one of Houston’s first funeral homes.

From that moment forward, The Settegast-Kopf Company became a trusted name for Houston families. By 1927, Ed’s daughter, Emma Settegast, was operating the funeral home with the help of her brother and a family friend named John Morrow. John purchased the business in 1963 and ran it until 1970.

Over the decades, the funeral home moved through several Houston locations, each reflecting the growth of the community it served—from its beginnings on Fannin Street (1901–1907), to the former M.T. Jones residence on Main Street (1907–1926), to the Tom Lucas Mansion at Milam and Gray (1926–1960), and then to Kirby Drive (1960–1992). Each location carried its own character, but the commitment to the community remained the same.

In 1993, The Settegast-Kopf Company reached a new milestone by expanding to Sugar Land. The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek location was the first funeral home in our fair city.
