Today is a day of both sadness and thanksgiving for the family and friends of Abe Martin. Abe was admitted to the hospital on February 9th with a mild heart attack, pneumonia and then low oxygen. His passing was too sudden for us who loved him, but he is now at rest with his Lord – free from pain, pressures and cares.
Abe was from Roland, Manitoba and had eleven siblings. His parents were David and Katherine (Letkeman) Martens. Abe attended a one-room school house and eventually quit to do farm work. He married Elizabeth Wiebe in 1948, and then they moved to the Abbotsford area in 1957. At that point two children, Kathy and Reg, were part of their family. Driving through the Rocky Mountains was hard on this prairie boy.
Abe and Betty cleared land and built a house in the country. Here Josie was born, completing the family. From that time on, Abe devoted himself to construction and became much in demand for his skills. He built many houses, besides working on churches, hotels and apartment buildings.
Abe and Betty gave their hearts to the Lord at the Church of the Nazarene over fifty years ago. They both loved and served God with all their hearts. They were fully committed to the work of the church and freely gave their time, talents, and resources.
Abe’s kind smile and spirit will be missed by all.
