1927 – 2025
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Albert Anné passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2025, at the age of 98, at Menno Home in Abbotsford, B.C.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; his children, Peter and Dagmar; and his grandson, David. Born in rural Slovakia in 1927, Albert was the youngest of eight children. From an early age, Albert exhibited an extraordinary character and a boundless curiosity about the world—especially the wild frontiers of Canada, which he first encountered in the pages of Jack London’s The Call of the Wild. That early fascination would later become a reality when he courageously fled the U.S.S.R. in 1968 with his family, determined to begin a new life in Canada.
A gifted electrical engineer Albert had a mind that was both meticulous and endlessly inventive—able to repair almost anything. More importantly, he found a lasting spiritual home as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a path that brought him profound purpose and peace. His unwavering beliefs, combined with his stance as a political pacifist, led to years of unjust imprisonment in Eastern Europe—hardships he endured with dignity and grace. He often recalled with awe the miracle of surviving the bombing of Dresden during World War II, an experience that left an indelible mark on his soul.
In Canada, Albert quietly rebuilt his life from scratch, working tirelessly—well into his 80s—to provide a foundation for his family’s future. Despite the many challenges, he met each day with humility, faith, and unshakable resolve.
Albert was also a man of many passions. Fluent in at least five languages, he was a lifelong learner and a lover of history and the natural world. He found deep joy in steam locomotives and spent countless hours crafting intricate model railroads, losing himself in the detailed, miniature landscapes he brought to life. Nature was his sanctuary, especially the mountains, whose grandeur and stillness reflected his own inner strength.
Those who knew Albert will remember him for his steadfast faith, gentle wisdom, and the quiet, enduring love he gave to those around him. He lived a life marked by courage, integrity, and grace—a life that touched many and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We are profoundly grateful for the years we shared with him. His legacy of love, perseverance, and faith will remain in our hearts always
