It is with much sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Richard Eyjolfson. Barry was born October 1, 1948 in Vancouver, BC and he was the eldest of 4 children to Raymond and Vivian Eyjolfson.
Barry passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026 at Surrey Memorial Hospital surrounded by many loving family members. He is survived by his wife of 48 years (Pamela), his 3 sons Cameron (Maryann), Gregory, and Kenneth (Andrea), and 6 grandchildren: Desiree, Emma, Hailey, Brynlee, Carter, and Layla. Barry is also survived by his loving brothers Bryan and Doug, and his sister, Cindy, along with many nieces and nephews. Barry was predeceased by his father Raymond Eyjolfson and his mother Vivian Eyjolfson.
Barry lived in Vancouver until the age of 12 when he moved with his family to Red Deer, Alberta. From there, he moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where he completed high school, attended university, and obtained his Bachelor of Education degree. Barry spent the next few years as a school teacher in northern Manitoba. It was here that he met his soon to be wife Pamela and they were married in Scotland in 1978. Upon returning to Canada after his wedding, Barry went to work in the Nass Valley as the Principal of the school in a small community called Greenville. He then moved to Aiyansh where he worked as the Vice Principal of a school before settling in Terrace, BC to work and raise his family.
Pam and Barry raised their 3 sons in Terrace, BC. Barry loved the outdoors and he would spend many hours fishing on the Skeena River. He was involved with Terrace Minor Hockey as the boys all grew up playing hockey. Barry would later develop a love of golf and he loved getting together with his golfing friends. Barry worked in the schools in Terrace for many years and he loved being around the kids. He touched many lives as a much-loved principal with his calm, fair, and respectful demeanor.
When Barry retired, he moved to Abbotsford and soon took on a job as a guest ambassador with WestJet at the Vancouver Airport. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there helping guests as they passed through the airport.
A special thank you goes out to the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion for Barry in his final days.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Barry on Thursday April 23rd at 1:30 pm at Cascade Church in Abbotsford (35190 Delair Road).
