Catherine Isabel Dunham

June 23, 1914 – February 6, 2016

It is with sadness that the family of Catherine Dunham announces her death at the age of 101.

Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was born in Nelson, B.C., the eldest daughter of Captain James and Jessie Ferguson. Catherine graduated from the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She met her loving husband, Dr. Burtt Dunham, while nursing in Nelson, they were married for 43 years before he died in 1983. Our mother was predeceased by 2 sisters, Jean Shields of Peterborough, Ontario and Lorraine Bremner of Prince Rupert, B.C. and one brother, retired Lieutenant Commander RCN, Fred Ferguson of Courtenay, B.C. She is survived by two daughters, Jane (Peter) Vatkin of Kelowna and Cathie (Jim) Reid of Prince George; five grandchildren, Ryan and Garth (Chelsea) Vatkin and Sara (Michael) Gardner, Kelly and Neil Reid; five great-granddaughters, Kate and Adisen Gardner and Taya, Violet, and Emmy Vatkin. A Memorial Service will take place at Knox United Church where Mom was a long-time member, at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox United Church, 5600 Balaclava Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6N 1L1 or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
