i met chase in elementary school but we weren’t close until the 6th grade. when i went to asia i had a hard time making good friends until chase and our group of friends took me under their wing and made me feel accepted and genuinely cared about. chase knew how to cheer me up when i was in a bad mood which was pretty often around that time, he always made sure to put a smile on my face. i remember almost every collab day we would go to the computer lab and play minecraft with our friend ciara, we loved minecraft at that time and would play it in class any chance we could. we were always getting in trouble in class for goofing off and being too loud, but we did it anyways. one day i brought this tiny rubber duck to school that i had found, and chase was obsessed with it, so we decided to make the duck squad which consisted of me ciara and chase, and it honestly had no meaning besides our love for ducks. i still have chase’s signature in my old notebook, and it says “chase da duck”, it’s something i’ll always keep with me. i remember i went to his birthday party in middle school and we all did a photoshoot with a bunch of props, i really wish i still had those pictures. we also had a friend group we liked to call the yo squad, we were quite the interesting group, but those are the truest friends i have ever had. chase and i hadn’t talked for quite some time after i left asia in grade 7, and i really wish we got to have at least one last chat. i really miss you my friend, and the duck squad will live on forever🦆

I met Chase last summer working at Boston Pizza. Every shift he always excitedly asked how I was doing, how my day was, and always tried to cheer me up, he never failed to put a smile on my face. He was often cracking jokes, and always asked to see pictures of my cats, and loved showing me pictures of Bokeh and Prince. We became friends and I really adored him, he was such a sweetheart, and had such a kind heart. Sometimes he needed a ride and he was always such a delight to have around, and I knew how excited he was to get his license, which he often talked about. I ended up leaving awhile after and finding a new job, and life became super busy unfortunately and we never really got to hang out after that, which will forever sadden me. Chase absolutely loved hearing about all my different animals on the farm and he was always so happy, so positive and always brightened everyone’s day around him. Seeing his glasses and his hat he used to always wear, all alone on the table today absolutely broke my heart.  I wish I knew how much you were struggling sweet boy 💔you are so so loved and you are so very missed. Bokeh looked so cute today, you would’ve been so proud of her. Rest In Peace sweetie ❤️my deepest condolences and love to all the Bodell family.

Chase and Adam would always laugh at me when I had no idea what new Apple device they were discussing, or what options the new Tesla had.  They had brilliant, intellectual conversations and then, minutes later, they'd be cracking up over something silly.  My favourite conversation with Chase was about rock music from the 70's and 80's - he knew way more than his own era.  We always enjoyed having him over.  Our family will miss him. 

I've always loved Chase very much. Him and his family have been our neighbours and chosen family for the past 10 years.  He was a big brother to me and acted just like one. He was annoying at times, hilarious at times but no matter what you always knew he had your back. I will always miss you and the kindness you showed to Aiden and I.

As a teacher of Chase's, I'll never forget his kindness and honesty. Chase would frequently chat about his passions in gaming and computers with me as that is something we connected early on about. He would often ask me about my recent computer build and we'd share thoughts on various PC parts and how ridiculously expensive things were getting! 

Sometimes, before class would begin, he'd ask me if he could come in and warm up his pizza in the microwave (which he often had because of work) and if I woudn't mind if he ate during class. Of course, the answer was always "anytime", but Chase always asked first out of respect to not create distractions during class. I also remember him being nervous about his driving test and how happy he was after it was over. It reminded me of how worried I was at that age and when he told me he had passed, I was able to live vicariously through his achievement.  

Chase was a good kid, and reminded me a lot of myself at that age. I am heartbroken that he is gone, and want to extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who were connected to him, whether closely or from afar. Chase will be missed by everyone; what I can say, however, is that I will forever have fond memories of him and the imprint he left on my life, even if it was only for 5 short months. 

I knew Chase for a long time, we grew up together around the Firehall in Mission that our Dad's both worked at, I remember always playing in the Firetruck bay together at the holiday parties. Being in Band together in Highschool, and being the only two Bass Clarinets was always fun, and we got up to so much funny stuff in the back corner that we sat in. Chase and I even got to the point in which we were streaming our Band Classes live on Twitch, and laughing.

Dear family and loved ones of Chase. My heart goes out to you in this very sad and difficult time. I can never comprehend the loss of a child. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

In my early teens, I was walking into a classroom at the Mission Leisure Centre to take my Babysitting class. I was ecstatic. Taking this class gave me a bunch of first aid skills that equipped me to babysit my adorable little cousins and I took this responsibility very seriously. Nothing made my day more than spending time with Chase and Ray: walks to the park, hide and seek, and making sure I was ALWAYS ready with my Heimlich maneuver ‘A’ game in case someone choked on a grape. Chase would tell me lengthy stories about his cats daily activities and was always ready to help me in whatever way he could. However, our most significant bonding moments occurred downstairs, when we were the only ones still up and the lego mounds surrounded us. Building things, telling stories, looking at unique lego pieces. Living in a colourful building block world until we would go read books before bed. He was creative and kind and always had something to teach me. I don’t remember what we talked about, I just remember the feeling of being in that room with him, being extremely engaged with every word he said and admiring the way his little mind worked. At the time, I didn’t appreciate how truly valuable those little moments were… but I feel blessed to have had them. I'm grateful to have seen the little lego master turn into a strong young man with a gentle heart. You are dearly missed Chase, you have held my love and adoration for a long time, and there are no words to properly encompass the heartbreaking feeling of you not being here anymore. 


I remember when I walked into class one time and chase said “hey it’s Bernier”. He only ever called me that. 

I met chase back in grade 9, we instantly clicked and became friends. Chase was always there for me when I was going through tough times at home and gave me someone I could trust and go to at anytime. Even though we weren’t as close as we were before, this year chase would try and help me with anything no matter what. Chase was a thoughtful and caring guy, he knew how to make people laugh and constantly was smiling. Chase was very smart, in every class we had together he was constantly answering the teacher’s questions and going the extra mile with his assignments. He will always be in our hearts and in our thoughts as the charismatic, charming, intelligent guy. We will all miss him.

Remember when I was young my mom had taken me over to hangout with him since chases mother had taken my mom’s pregnancy pictures 

I spent all of chemistry class last year with chase in the lab room. He was always so open about his music and he got me into a lot of the music I listen to today. Definitely one of the nicest people I knew❤️

Chase spent some time with me on a few occasions when his dad was on a fire call.  Chase and I played fire call too.  When an alarm clock on the backyard bench went off, we rushed into the house, got our coats and his red captain's hat and rushed outside to get the hose to attack the imaginary fire in the garden.  We did it over and over again.  Lots of hard work and lots of laughter.  He always did a great job.  That's how I will remember him. 
Deepest condolences to his family.

Chase was an amazing friend to everyone he talked to including me. He always had a smile on his face whenever you saw him. I met chase in grade 9 and that's when we got really close. I will never forget when he used to give me piggy back rides or pick me up over his shoulder and run down the Bateman track, even giving him a hug before and after each of his football or rugby games. We would always talk about growing up and being friends farther in the future. We didn't hangout much outside school, but at school we were with each other whenever we could be. I'm going to miss seeing him in the halls waving at me or putting his hand on my shoulder walking down the halls or calling me Matthews because he never called me by my first name. Chase changed so many people's lives and he changed mine with his caring, loyal heart, he was always laughing and having a good time at school. One of many memories I have with him was seeing him in the library everyday playing games on the computers playing Sicko Mode on repeat in grade 9. I am so so grateful I met a person as loving and caring as Chase, he made my grade 12 year the best school year ever. Heaven gained an amazing new angel

Chase and I were best buddies in grade 6 and 7. 
We would hangout every single day having the same classes and interests.
Chase was the funny guy for sure he always knew how to make me laugh, he made everything so enjoyable and the reason I was excited to go to school the next day. Whenever I was in his presence it was so easy to be  happy because of how he always had a smile on his face and how in an instant he could make me smile. With being best buddies I never missed a birthday party, from PlayAbby to parties at his place I always knew I had to be there, Chase was the reason they were so fun. Chase was such a caring, intelligent, loyal person. I knew for sure I could count on him I’m any situation if I needed it and that’s why I regret losing contact with him in the last two years because knowing now that’s when he needed it the most. I’m so sorry for the family’s loss and I know Chase is resting peacefully right now. The world has lost an amazing man and the bestest friend.

Ryan and Chase loved to walk their dogs together and have time to catch up. 
They became good friends in boy scouts 
He was always such a polite and friendly young man. Our dog loved his visits! 
Whenever we saw him out and about, he always lit up with a smile and cheerful conversation. Were going to miss seeing him around in the neighborhood.

I didn't know him too well, but we were friends back in grade 9. We talked often in the middle of the night on Discord. The photo shown is of a drawing Chase did in our shared French 9 class. He was hilarious and we had so many silly inside jokes. I'll forever remember him ❤

The memory of Chase will always be in my heart. I loved his humour, his quick whit and caring demeanour. I remember he was a master at building Lego, and worlds on Terreria (he introduced my kids to this and taught them great tricks). His love for his Cat and sister made my heart melt. He will truly be missed, and never forgotten. 
I would like to give my condolences to every life he touched, and especially to his family. 

I went to middle school with chase , he always put a smile on my face I thought that he was funny. I remember he came up to me one day in class and asked me if I talk that was my favourite moment with him.

My teenager was friends with Chase in elementary and middle school. While I had little one-to-one interaction with Chase, I always liked Chase. He was a good friend to my child, when many others were not and I always looked forward to “funny Chase stories” abd his love for ducks and cats. When Chase changed schools, they lost contact. Hearing of Chase’s passing has broken the hearts of everyone who knew him. He made a lasting impression and he will be missed by many. My heart goes out to his family, especially his mom. No parent should ever lose a child. Hugs and peace being sent to all who loved his sunny smile.
