It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doreen May Irene Miller (Known by all who loved her as Mum, Granny, Granny II, and Great- Great). Doreen passed away at sunset on November 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family members.
Doreen was born on the family farm in Togo, Saskatchewan to Lillian and Joseph Topham on July 15, 1931. She spent her childhood days out-house tipping and otherwise raising a ruckus with her sister Joyce and her brother Joe. When not running amuck, Doreen attended school in Togo, Saskatchewan. At eighteen she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, working as a clerk until she married Stanley Frenor Miller in 1953. Shortly thereafter their first daughter Rae was born followed by two more lovely daughters, Teresa and Peggy.
Doreen worked with Corrections Canada as a Clerk for over twenty years before making the most of her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed trips across Canada, as well as Hawaii, Las Vegas, Reno, and an African Safari. She was an avid card player, but most of all she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – her family, good food, and a frosty pint.
Doreen is survived by her brother Joseph Topham and his wife Donna, her three daughters and sons-in law (Peggy & Alan, Teresa & Paul, and Rae & Doug), eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In keeping with Doreen’s wishes there will not be a public service, but we ask that all who knew and loved her raise a glass of Sleeman’s Honey Brown in her honour.
A private family gathering has taken place.
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford, BC.
