

Edwin Charles Rode was born August 9, 1939, to the joy of his mother and father, Lydia and William Rode, at his grandmother’s home in Lang, SK. All of Ed’s younger years were spent in SK on the farm until moving to Chilliwack BC after his parents sold the farm. His mom and dad owned and operated a small general store on the Army base where he worked and attended high school in Chilliwack.
After Ed married, he moved to Abbotsford to work at DairyLand. He moved back to Lang to work at his parents’ Red and White store. The family then bought a larger place they called Rode’s Save-Way. Ed was a certified Tip Top Tailor for the general store.
In 1972, he met Carol, they married in 1981, and resided in Abbotsford, BC. Ed worked as a correctional officer at the Regional Psych Centre in Abbotsford until his retirement in 1998.
Ed loved attending the horse races with his friend, Bob. He enjoyed many cruises and trips to the warmer climates.
Ed passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on February 11, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Lydia, and nephew Shayne. Ed is survived by his wife, Carol, his son, Steven, daughters Barbara and Melissa, step-daughter Shellie, brother Larry, and his grandchildren Spencer, Sean, Cate, Margaret, Paul, John, Alexandrea, Janelle, and nephew Chris.
Friends and family will always cherish the memories of Ed’s sense of humour and the stories he told.
There will be a celebration of life on February 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC.
