Born in Kisbey, Saskatchewan, Ian travelled across Canada working in mining, surveying and drilling. He met and married Carmel Sottile in Coniston, Ontario. They had three children, David, Michael (deceased) and John.
Ian was a man of character, a “Diamond in the Rough” who always came through when needed. In the past they would have said, “He was a man to ride the river with”. He never judged or criticized, but was always the first person to tackle any job that came up.
Ian’s greatest love was family, baseball and the outdoors. As a young man in Kamloops, he was a skilled baseball player, nick-named “Tiger” for his feisty style of play. In Sault Ste Marie, he was called “Salty” for his drive to fish no matter what the weather conditions were. In Elliot Lake, he was known as “Mac” for his long jokes and yarns he would tell. And, in BC, he was known as “Radar” for his ability to never get lost, no matter where he went hiking, fishing or hunting.
In the McDonald Clan, he was simply a ‘Legend’ that will be very much missed.
