to parents Walter and Hazel Brigden. She was the fourth child of what would eventually
become an extended family of eleven children. Irene moved to Abbotsford with her family when
she was four years old. By that time the family had grown to include five children: Bill, Laurie,
Ben, Irene, and Dennis. They initially moved in with her mother’s relatives until they could find a
place of their own. Eventually they bought some property on Jackson Road where they built a
house and established a strawberry farm. Later the family bought property on Ross Road and
moved there in 1951.
Irene lived with her mother intermittently until 1955, when she moved to Salt Spring
Island to live with her father. It was there that she met Albert Campbell whom she married in
1956. Albert and Irene lived in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island, for several years before
coming to Abbotsford, where they rented a little house on Fraser Highway near Lefeuvre Road.
After Albert passed away in 1973, Irene moved to Valhaven Home and then, later, to Bakerview
Home.
In 1998 Irene moved in with the Borrows family where she lived with Alan, Annette,
Jessica, Hailey and Madison. In 2012 Marisa and Austin would move in and become Irene’s
family which would also include Shawn, Jayden and Jackson Yarwood.
Irene also had many friends in the community in her role as a volunteer at the Minikin
Market, Lunch with the bunch, Drop In and friendship on Tuesday nights. She enjoyed visiting
with family and friends and was always happy and excited to attend family functions.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Albert Campbell, parents Walter Brigden and
Hazel Hayes, and brothers Bill Brigden, Laurie Brigden, Ben Brigden and Spencer Brigden.
She is survived by brothers, Dennis Brigden and Roy Hayes, as well as sisters, Beth Baker,
Rosemary Vegso, Marilynne Cunningham and Angela Carr, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Irene passed away peacefully surrounded by people who loved her. Special thanks to
