Ivy attended school in P.E.I., and went on to become a teacher – a “school marm” in a one-room school, grades one through ten!!
In 1939, Ivy met C. Gordon A. Lafferty of Summerside, and they spent many evenings dancing to the music of Don Messer and the Islanders! They married the same year and were to be blessed with three children, Gwen, Cyril, and Suzanne.
Ivy and Gordon and family moved to Edmonton, where Gordon worked at N.A.I.T., and Ivy was employed by Eaton’s for many years, until her retirement. She took part in their activities, took pride in making her “Klondike Dresses.”
Upon retirement, they realized their dream of moving to B.C. – the climate being a big factor. Ivy and Gordon loved to travel, and P.E.I. always drew them back – they drove their motor-home many times, and Josh can tell about trips with them that were so special!
Gordon passed away in 1988, and Ivy made her home with Suzanne. She continued to travel, and returned to her beloved P.E.I. many times to visit friends and family.
Ivy was a member of Rebecca Lodge in Edmonton and Abbotsford, and received her 60 year membership pin! She made many friends, and enjoyed the meetings. Bridge games were a favorite, and in later years, Bingo games were an outing for her. She loved to visit - - - !
Ivy continued to live with Suzanne & Mike until her health failed and she moved to MSA Manor for continuing care. She had a “spokes-person” in Suzanne, who would say – “My Mom always went to bat for me, now it’s my turn!” She made sure her Mom had the care she was so deserving of!!
Ivy leaves to mourn, her loving daughter, Suzanne (Mike); son-in-law, Ken; grandsons Josh, Andy (Michelle), and Robin; granddaughters Jackie (Kona), Penny; great-grandchildren Aimee, Lynden, Nate; and one great-great-grandchild, Ash Lynn. She also leaves to lovingly remember, her sister, Doreen (Bill), her extended family in P.E.I., and many friends in P.E.I. and Alberta.
Ivy was predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon, in 1988, her son, Cyril, in 1983, and daughter, Gwen, in 2012, and her grandson, Chad, in 2012. Ivy will be laid to rest beside Gordon and Cyril in Edmonton in the spring. May she rest in peace!
