Jake was born on May 29, 1924 to Johann and Anna Kehler in Altona, Manitoba.
In 1946, Jake married Gertrude (Trudy) Goertzen. Jake and Trudy went on to have eleven children: Jim, Linda, Ken, Ray, Brad, Bruce, Cheryl, Verna, Warren, Rod and Ivan.
Their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren number over 100.
Jake and Trudy lived in Saskatchewan for several years then moved back to southern Manitoba until 1963.
Then came the move that would shape the future of the family. Jake moved the family to Summerland, British Columbia. The family lived in the Okanagan Valley for over two years and then settled in the Fraser Valley town of Abbotsford, where they spent their remaining years.
Jake spent the last five years at the Mayfair in Abbotsford.
Jake had a strong Christian faith, a good sense of humour, and always had a smile on his face. This lasted right up until his final day.
In 2002 Jake lost the love of his life when Trudy passed away from cancer.
He was a positive influence on everyone who knew him.
Jake is survived by brother Albert, sister Eva, his children and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Jake’s honour.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodlawnfh-abbotsford.com for the Kehler family.
