Joan Joyce Marie Longphee

November 11, 1940 – May 30, 2025

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Joyce Marie Longphee, who passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Abbotsford, BC, at the age of 84.

Joan was born on November 11, 1940, in Lestock, Saskatchewan. She lived a full and generous life rooted in family, faith, and community. A devoted wife, Joan shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Bud, building a life filled with love, resilience, and hard work.

She was the proud mother of three children: Mary Lou (Daren) Alary, Lisa McConnell, and Brad (Joanne) Longphee. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Breck (Lauren) Alary, and great-grandchildren Maggie and Hudson; Miranda Alary (Logan Magnan); Laurren Alary; Dylan McConnell; Nicole Longphee (Kyle Mosiman); Carson Longphee; and Paige Longphee. Joan will also be lovingly remembered and missed by her sisters-in-law Diane Garbutt and Florence O’Shaughnessy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved mother Emelia (Hartl) Garbutt; brother Bill Garbutt; father- and mother-in-law Peter and Kathleen Longphee; and her grandson Kyle McConnell.

Joan spent much of her life alongside Bud, farming and raising their family near Storthoaks, Saskatchewan. Life on the farm was not always easy, but it reflected her strength, determination, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.

As a mother, she shaped who we are today. She taught us to believe in ourselves, to be generous and kind to others, and to always strive to be our best.

Her hands were never idle, and her heart was always full—whether working in the field, tending her garden, canning, sewing, preparing “picnic” meals for the field, or her favourite activity of all: baking with her grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 2777 Townline Rd, Abbotsford, BC.

Joan’s presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
