Maria Carmina Bassani

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Maria Bassani. Maria was born May 15, 1925, in Civitanova del Sannio, Italy, and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 23, 2025, at the age of 100.

She is survived by her children, Tina (Leonard) Palmer, Joe (Tammy) Bassani, and Angelo. Grandchildren Vincent, Jason, Matthew, and Christina, and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Bassani, and her sister-in-law, Maria Di Palma, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Luigi Bassani, and her parents, Vincenzo and Concettina Di Palma; her brothers, John Di Palma, Tony Di Palma, Angelo Di Palma, and Joe Di Palma. Also, brothers-in-law Louie Bassani and John Bassani. Sisters-in-law Maria Di Palma, Antonia Varesi, and Maria Terragni.

Mom was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and found great joy in tending her garden. She continued growing tomatoes well into her late 80s. There was always more than enough to share, and she generously gave vegetables to neighbors and anyone who happened to stop by. She was known for her amazing sauce and pasta. Above all, she had a truly kind and generous heart.

Visitation January 9th at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass of at 11:00 AM, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave, Abbotsford. Final resting 1:00 PM Ocean View Cemetery, South Mausoleum, 4000 Imperial Drive, Burnaby.
