

S. Mukand Singh Braich was born on December 15, 1938 in the village of Hathan, distt Sangrur Punjab. Mukand Singh’s dad was late Bhagwan Singh and mother late Nihal Kaur. They were two brothers and five sisters. Mukand Singh was very much loved by his family and he completed his high school education at Malerkotla. At the age of sixteen Mukand Singh Braich was married to Jaswant Kaur. They were blessed with one daughter, Rajwinder Kaur and one son, Didar Singh. Mukand Singh was re-married to Bhajan Kaur and they had two daughter and two sons, Paramjit Kaur, Kanwardeep Singh, Baljit Kaur, Hardeep Singh. Mukand Singh Braich served as the president of Dhuri Sugarcane mills society from 1982-85. Mukand Singh Braich was a very well known personality. He was very nice and kind hearted. Mukand Singh Braich lived for his family. Mukand Singh Braich was our hero and he was the best dad in the world and we used to get lots of compliments about him and we are proud to be the children of Mukand Singh Braich. Mukand Singh Braich was extremely helpful in doing so he did whatever he could to lend a helping hand to the needy. Zathedaar Mukand Singh Braich took a part as a very active member in the Dharam Zudh Morcha in 1984. Mukand Singh Braich had an expectional relationship with Mr. Parkas Singh Badal, chief minister of Punjab and Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala, the ex-chief minister of Punjab. Mukand Singh Braich served as a public servant; that is why tons of people in Punjab and in our village Hathan also in our area eagerly waited to see a glimpse. Mukand Singh Braich was a prominent personality in the village and around the area. Mukand Singh Braich has a good name and a good family background. He was a very good friend to Nawab and Mrs. Nawab Malerkotla. Mukand Singh Braich helped people financially and emotionally and with personal issues and the list goes on and never ends. His older daughter was married to Shingara Singh Pandher from Canada. S. Mukand Singh Braich immigrated to Canada in 1993 and first arrived in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Where he stayed with daughter Paramjit Kaur Pandher and family from a time span of two to three months. Following that Mukand Singh Braich moved to Pentiction, and lived there for about 6 months. During this time Mukand Singh Braich had his daughter Baljit Kaur married off to Hardev Singh Sidhu from Osoyoos, BC. Soon after the marriage of his daughter Mukand Singh Braich moved to Abbotsford with his two sons, Kanwardeep Braich, and Hardeep Braich and his wife Bhajan Kaur Braich, where he bought a new home. After time passed, his eldest son Kanwardeep Braich bought a farm and he moved out with his two kids, Jas Braich, and Harpinder Singh Braich, and wife Kamaljit Kaur Braich. Mukand Singh Braich and his wife Bhajan Kaur Braich stayed with their youngest son Hardeep Singh Braich and their grandchildren Harkomaldeep Kaur Braich and Hararjundeep Singh Braich and their daughter in law Jaspal Kaur Braich.
Mukand Singh Braich suffered from heart problems mid-March, 2011 and had a pace maker planted into his body to support a regular heartbeat. From that point on his health was slowly but surely improving, exciting everyone and allowing their minds to be at peace. As months passed when mid-July came around he was sadly faced with another health complication, which was that he had extra fluid in his lungs causing him to be rushed to the hospital because of the painful swelling. Doctors had to immediately start draining the extra fluid from his lungs over the course of a week to stabilize him. During this time he was also undergoing many medical examinations. Unfortunately doctors discovered an abnormality that lead them to believe that something was wrong and that they should immediately run more tests. After receiving the results of all the examinations Mukand Singh Braich underwent, doctors confirmed he was in fact a victim of Liver Cancer. He was seen by an Oncologist at the Abbotsford hospital. As days went on the Doctors sent him home. Shortly after Mukand Singh Briach met with the same Oncologist and began treatment. On October 11th 2011 he was taken by ambulance to the Abbotsford hospital where the doctors noticed that on top of the Liver Cancer he was also dehydrated and the Kidneys were in very bad condition. At this point doctors made us aware of the fact that he didn’t have much time and that it was going to be a case of kidney failure.
On October 15th 2011 Mukand Singh Braich passed away without pain at 2:07 am at the Abbotsford Hospital. This was the breaking point of his loved ones.
