

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Eula, Texas, with Reverend Tim White officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, Roscoe, Texas, at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Alfred was born February 12, 1922 in Henrietta, Texas to Pauline (Bitz) and Gotfred Schaffner. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Alfred married Rosemary Kafer on January 20, 1946 in Roscoe, Texas. He was a veteran police officer of the Abilene Police Department, retiring in 1984. Alfred was a longtime member of Eula First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gotfred and Pauline Schaffner; a sister, Gerta Schaffner; and a brother, Edwin Schaffner.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Schaffner of Clyde, Texas; his children, Gloria McCarty, Barbara Belcher, Roland Schaffner, Teresa Coker, Rex Schaffner, and Romana Hernandez; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Mae Smith and Mary Lou Teague; and four brothers, Reuben Schaffner, Leonard Schaffner, Leroy Schaffner, and Daniel Schaffner.
