To my family:  I share in your sadness in the loss of our father.  Mother, Iam sorry that the area fires kept me from attending the funeral service.  I tried to go the prior Sunday before daddy's passing away and the Sunday before the funeral however, the roads were blocked due to the extensive fires covering this area. The loss of someone so close is difficult to bear.  We share your grief.

Brother Al is one of the sweetest Godly men we know.  His kindness will be missed.  However, we know that this is only temporary and we will see this kind man again one day in Heaven.  Our love goes out to the family.  Thank you so much for sharing your husband/dad/relative with us. Sincerely, Scott, Debra and Michelle Ayers.

Mr. Schaffner was truly an amazing man!  When he spoke his words were always kind and gentle, and could make you feel better no matter how bad you felt.  We loved him and will miss him.  We will always hear him say "Thank God for the rain".

I worked with Al Schaffner at the Abilene Police Department.  He was a caring, compassionate man but he never backed down from a challenge.  My deepest sympathy goes to his family.

Alfred Schaffner was one of the best men I've ever known. He was truly a "gentleman" in every sense of the word. My family was fortunate enough to attend church with him for 7 years while we lived in Eula, and I am proud to have called him friend. Please accept my heartfelt prayers for your healing in this difficult time.

Al Schaffner was my desk officer from the time I started dispatching until his retirement. He was every good thing everyone else has said about him, and  more. Al was a gentleman in ever sense of the word. He lived his faith on a daily basis and the world was better for it.

I enjoyed keeping up with him at retirement and promotion ceremonies. He always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone. He will be missed.

I am so please to have known Schaff. He worked security at the bank I was with and he was one of the main reasons we fought to have the officers and their wives invited to the annual Christmas party. He was such a gentle man. That was 40 years ago. I hadn't seen him for 20 years and he remembered me and I him. We sat and had coffee and he got me all caught up. He was so sweet and gentle. God Bless you all and bring you peaceful memories.

To The Schaffner Family..Your whole family are in my thoughts and  prayers. My mother, Corinne Rhodes worked with Officer Schaffner for many years at the Abilene Police Department. He was undoubtly her favorte officer. Many nights I would pickup my mother from work and I would go early to visit with Officer Schaffner and listen to his stories about police work.  I believe because of the time he spent with me talking about his profession is the reason I went in police work and joined the Dallas Police Department. I will always remember Al and his friendship. I got to know "Schaff" when I was a college student working in Central Records of the APD. He was a true gentleman. My prayers are with you all.

Ive never met a kinder, sweeter, more gentle man than Al Schaffner. I had the honor and pleasure of serving with him at the Abilene PD.  There was always a smile and a twinkle in his eye.  I pray that God will grant his wife and family His comforting peace.
