

Ray was married to Marjorie Covey on July 4, 1947 and they had 63 wonderful years together.
Ray graduated from Weinert High School and soon afterward joined the Navy where he served his country during World War II. Soon after being discharged he began to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Most of his almost 40 years with the phone company were spent in Anson and Abilene. While working in Anson he was known simply as the Phone Man. Also while in Anson Ray was very active in his community. He served as a Deacon for the Anson Church of Christ for many years. Ray was a member for the Anson Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief, served terms on the City Council and Hospital Board, was Cub Master for the Cub Scouts, and he was one of the first Anson Police Reserves. Because of his activities Ray touched many lives and was able to help many people.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda; and a brother, Ken.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; one son, Ray Lynn and wife, Carolyn; one brother, Jim; four grandchildren, Laurie and husband, Jason Hyman, Matthew and wife, Yvonne, Timothy and wife, Marilyn, Kimberly and husband, Jeff Mensing; and nine great-grandchildren who all loved and adored him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home at 5701 Highway 277 South in Abilene, Texas. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. at the Westgate Church of Christ, 402 South Pioneer Dr., Abilene, Texas, with burial schedule for 2 p.m. in Haskell, Texas.
